Word was received here Saturday of the death of W. H. Neathery of Bald
Knob, Ark., from apoplexy, about 9 o'clock Saturday morning.
He was the eldest son of S. H. Neathery, one of the oldest native-born
citizens of Lamar county, and a brother of Mrs. J. W. Crook and the late Justin
Neathery who died here a few weeks ago of a heart attack.
His brother-in-law, J. W. Crook and C. M. Hill, left overland Saturday for
Arkansas. Arrangements for the funeral had not been learned here late last
night.
Mr. Neathery, 59 years old, was born and reared in Lamar county, making
his home here until about (9) years ago when he went to Arkansas. He had been
engaged in hotel work at Bald Knob, his permanent residence being at Little
Rock. He is survived by his wife and two children by a former marriage, a son
living in El Paso and a daughter in Oklahoma City.

2723 When a young man, Malvern Magruder fell off a freight train and had one leg severed. The brakeman found him and took him to a doctor; he had to use an artificial leg. While his sister, Ada, was living in Rogers, Arkansas, Malvern visited her, and it was there that he met his first wife, Della Cooper. They were divorced around 1924, in Brighton, Adams County, Colorado. Malvern Magruder was a grocer and butcher by trade. 2738 William Benton emigrated at age 14 to the United States, arriving at Alexandria, Virginia., and eventually settled in Loudoun County, Virginia. During the War of 1812, William became acquainted with James Monroe, the future President. He later became a "counselor and friend" of Monroe's and managed Monroe's plantation, Oak Hill. He also supervised the building of Monroe's home at Oak Hill, during which time he resided in one of the homes on the Monroe estate. William and his wife, Sarah Hyde, named their first child James Monroe Benton in honor of the President. They ultimately had eight children. At age 99, William was breaking a colt. His obituary in the Chicago Daily Tribune of Saturday 13, September 1941, reads: "William H. Cotter. 317 Home Ave., Oak Park, beloved husband of Belle Cotter, father of Earle, Harold, Ross & Roger.
